By Lee Kyung-min lkm@koreatimes.co.kr

Hyosung Group Chairman Cho Hyun-joon has won the top management award for his contribution to the global growth of the group, the firm said Wednesday.

The prize is given by the Korean Academic Society of Business Administration (KASBA), a private research organization, and is considered its highest honor. It is awarded to entrepreneurs who have made exceptional contributions to corporate growth and enriching the entrepreneurial spirit with excellent management abilities. The name of the prize is the KASBA CEO Grand Prix. The organization’s award committee unanimously selected the Hyosung chairman as the winner this year.

Cho, according to the organization, implemented and strengthened three principles of management, which he learned from his father Hyosung Honorary Chairman Cho Suk-rae and grandfather and group founder Cho Hong-je. He mentioned the achievements of his grandfather and his father, saying that he learned to prioritize securing trust with customers, hard work and technology developments as key growth strategies.

“I believe that listening to the voices of consumers, creating topclass products to contribute to the economic growth of the country all made me who I am as a business person,” he said during an award reception ceremony.

“Hyosung will spare no efforts to secure and maintain a competitive edge over global peers and fortify future growth momentum, as underpinned by the further development of our own technology.”

In the “era of singularity,” as he characterized it, businesses need to more deeply understand customers and make products that best meet their needs, he said.

“Only those who move a step ahead of customers can survive,” he said. “Hyosung will become a firm that wins the trust of customers whose satisfaction will determine the level and scope of our growth.”
